Reading With Your Little Ones

Reading daily to young children, starting in infancy, can help with language acquisition and literacy skills. This is because reading to your children in the earliest months stimulates the part of the brain that allows them to understand the meaning of language and helps build key language, literacy and social skills. Reading to/with your child is also an amazing bonding experience. You not only build their love for books, but also their love for you by giving them the gift of your time and undivided attention.

Our local library participates in the 1000 books before Kindergarten campaign. I wish it had been around when my kids were little. I was a young mom (with the first two kids anyway) and reading with my little ones was one of my favorite things to do. But with this program you get support (which I could have used), encouragement, and resources. They have some great reading logs and rewards available to print and share with your little ones to encourage their love of reading time.
